Evolution of Guns Essay Example Evolution of Guns Essay Evolution of Guns Essay Essay Topic: Gun Control colt Colts Manufacturing Company is a United States firearms manufacturer, who was founded in 1836 by Samuel Colt. Colt is best known for the engineering, production, and marketing of firearms over the later half of the 19th and the 20th century. Colts earliest designs played a major role in the revolver and the shift away from earlier single-shot pistols. While Sam Colt did not invent the revolver concept, his designs resulted in the first successful ones. Samuel Colt was an American inventor from Hartford, Connecticut. Colts first two business ventures ended in disappointment. After the Texas Rangers ordered 1,000 of his revolvers during the American war with Mexico in 1847, his business expanded rapidly. His factory in Hartford built the guns used as side arms by both the North and the South in the American Civil War, and later his firearms were recognized in taming the western frontier. Colt died in 1862, before the end of the Civil War, as one of the wealthiest men in America. In 2006, Colt was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame. The most famous Colt products include the Walker Colt, Single Action Army or Peacemaker, and the Colt Python. John Browning worked for Colt for a time, and came up with a design for a semiautomatic pistol, which debuted as the Colt M1900 pistol and eventually evolved into the Colt M1911 pistol. Though they did not develop it, for a long time Colt was primarily responsible for all AR-1 5 and M16 rifle production. The most successful and famous of these are numerous M16 carbines, including the Colt Commando family, and the M4 carbine. In 2002, Colt Defense was split off from Colts Manufacturing Company. Colt Manufacturing Company now serves the civilian market, while Colt Defense serves the law enforcement, military, and private security markets orldwide. Abe Lincoln may have freed all men, but Sam Colt made them equal. This post-civil War slogan would have been music to Sam Colts ears if he lived long enough to hear it. Yet, even before his death at the age of 47, he knew that his invention of a weapon capable of firing without reloading was a huge success throughout the world. Some 19th-century historians have gone so far as to say that Sam Colts invention changed the course of history. But when all was said and done, no man could disagree that Sam Colt had achieved a level of both fame and fortune known to few other inventors. Remington New York, as E. Remington and Sons. As an industry leader in the firearms, ammunition, and accessory industry, this 194-year-old company has hit its mark in the world of licensing. Several years ago, Remington Arms Company, Inc. tood independent as the largest and oldest firearms, ammunition, and accessory company in America. Remington is one of the largest producers of rifles and shotguns in the US and is known for its Pump Action Model 870 shotgun, and its Bolt Action Model 700 rifle, among others. It is the oldest company in the United States which still makes its original product, and is the oldest continuously operating manufacturer in North America. He began designing and building a flintlock rifle for himself. In the fall of that year, he entered a shooting match; though he only finished second, his well-made gun impressed other shooters. Before Eliphalet left the field that day, he had received so many orders from other competitors that he was now officially in the gunsmithing business. By 1828, the operation moved to nearby Ilion, New York, at the same site which is used by the modern Remington firearms plant. During World War l, Remington produced arms under contract for several Allied powers. Remington produced M1907-15 Berthier rifles for France, Pattern 1914 Enfield rifles for Britain, and Model 1891 Mosin-Nagant rifles for Imperial Russia. As the war increased, Remington production increased. When the U. S. entered the war, Remington became deeply involved in the war effort. Contributions by Remington included development and production of the U. S. MI 917 Enfield rifle, a simplified version of the British Pattern 1914, and development of the Pedersen device. In 1962 Remington introduced the Model 700 bolt-action rifle. The rifle became one of Remingtons most uccessful firearms, and quickly lent itself to developments of many sub-variants, including the Remington 700 BDL, Remington 700PSS for police and law enforcement agencies and the military M24 SWS which was the USA Army standard sniper rifle between 1988-2010 and still serves among other armed forces around the world. Other firearms companies designed and manufactured sniper rifles based on the reliable and accurate Remington Model 700 action. nd Amendment The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution is the part of the United States Bill of Rights that protects the right of the people to keep and bear arms. It was adopted on December 15, 1791, along with the rest of the Bill of Rights. The Second Amendment contains two clauses, the Militia Clause (A well-regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a Free State) and the Right to Arms Clause (the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed). The 2nd debate. Concerned with rising violence in society and the role firearms play in that violence, gun control advocates began to read the 2nd Amendment one way. On the other side, firearm enthusiasts saw the attacks on gun ownership as attacks on reedom, and defended their interpretation of the 2nd Amendment Just as fiercely. If the authors of the 2nd Amendment could have predicted the argument, they might have phrased the amendment differently, because much of the debate has centered on the way the amendment is phrased. We are a gun culture, and a very well-armed society, with estimates of over 250 million guns in private hands, in a country of 310 million people. The 2nd Amendment is both controversial and beloved by American citizens, who still defend it, and support the National Rifle Association which is designed to do Just that, to the extreme even. NRA The NRA, or National Rifle Association, is an American non-profit organization originally established by Union veterans Col. William C. Church and Gen. George Wingate 1871 in New York that helps to protect gun owners and ensure they are able to exercise their right to bear arms, the primary goal of the association would be to promote and encourage rifle shooting on a scientific basis According to the Second Amendment of the United States Bill of Rights, citizens are afforded the right to purchase and own guns. The NRA also focuses on gun safety, and offers courses to hose who are interested. There are currently over four million members of the NRA and statistics show that this number is steadily growing. The Associations impressive influence extends beyond its three million members. The NRA reaches one million young men and women through educational programs, including 40,000 in its young hunters program. Also, 6,000 marksmen compete nationally in the Associations shooting competitions; the NRA and its foundation maintain ties with several youth. The National Rifle Association goes to great lengths to defend the right to bear arms. It is opposed to virtually every form of gun control, including restrictions on owning assault weapons, background checks for gun owners, and registration of firearms groups, such 4-H and the Boy Scouts of America.
